Back home, in Cuenca, the law school university spoke with EL UNIVERSO and although He confessed not having noticed his future path in cycling, he set the goal of reaching Europe and competing in the Grand Tours.

What feelings did the national championships leave?

Very good, but out of results I am happy with my performance. Now is the time to enjoy a bit of this and immediately continue training.

Was the national title on the road a surprise?

Cycling is like a lottery, there are days when things can go well and others when they don’t, this time it was my turn, but the next time it may be favorable for another girl, this is all very crazy, there is to know how to handle things well, to accept when there are good and bad days. You have to learn from everything in life.

But his good performance marks a constant, in all categories…

It is a process that I have been carrying out, I am enjoying it and I like how we are carrying it out with the team and my family. It is very cool to see how the young women can fight the elite cyclists, it is also very motivating that the female lot is gaining space. It’s nice to see people’s support in that sense too. We are showing that we want more.

How much did the regulation to include women in the country’s cycling teams help?

A lot, for this reason we must be grateful for the support and initiative of the Ecuadorian Cycling Federation which forces us to have two runners per team this year (in 2022 it was a cyclist), that is good because it helps us women, you can see that the teams open up for us, before there was no such attention, they did not stop us.

That also helps to improve the level, are there more demands?

Yes, we are growing more and more and it is exciting to see that. There are women who want to compete and show that only men can put on a show.

What did you feel after beating Miryam Núñez, a benchmark in women’s cycling?

Everything was exciting, Miryam is crack, the best Ecuadorian cyclist. My respects to her because what she makes of her is worth taking off her hat, running in Europe and her achievements, that makes all girls seek to follow in her footsteps.

And when putting on the tricolor jersey?

A very nice feeling. It is touching to represent so many people from this beautiful country with this shirt. I’m already looking forward to using it.

Do you have a relationship with Miryam?

We are good companions. We already had the opportunity to share in the national team, we have talked about many things, he has given me good advice and not everyone shares those things with you.

On the podium of the nationals he was with Richard Carapaz, another benchmark.

I really liked being with Richard, his relationship with people is very nice, he is very affectionate with the public and they respond to him. He’s admirable too, unfortunately we couldn’t talk directly.

How is your season?

The first goal of the year was the national championship, then we’ll see what we have with my team, last year we were with Movistar-Best PC in the Tour of Colombia and we did a good job, this year we hope to repeat that and there will also be international participation With the national team, there is good activity and that also helps to raise the level.

What is your aspiration with cycling. What goals have you set?

I’ve never asked myself that (laughs), but I think reaching Europe would be a goal, running a Grand Tour, completing an Olympic cycle. Cycling has helped me grow as a person and I only hope to continue enjoying it. I think everything is a process more than anything, I hope to go slowly, step by step, and then we’ll see what happens with Ana Vivar. (D)
