Doctor Lev Averbakh said that Roman Kostomarov may develop sepsis further
The chief physician of a private ambulance in St. Petersburg, Lev Averbakh, assessed the likelihood of developing sepsis in Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov after an operation on his hands. His words are quoted by Izvestia.
“Sepsis, even despite amputation, can develop further. Rarely, but it can, ”said the specialist.
On February 14, KP.RU, citing a source in medical circles, stated that Kostomarov had undergone a second operation and both hands had been amputated. The mother of the athlete Valentina denied this information. The Telegram channel Mash reported that the skater had only a few fingers removed. On February 7, Telegram channel 112 wrote that the skater had his left foot amputated.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B.
