With a warning, Gonzalo Plata is eligible to line up against Chile

The offensive of the Ecuadorian soccer team only has a yellow card and may be considered for the game against the Red, by qualifying.

The clarification arrived this friday after the alert that caused the yellow card shown to Gonzalo Plata in the game against Venezuela (1-0) by date 13 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier.

With the admonition to Silver, due to a foul committed at minute 22, there was speculation about the possible accumulation of two cards and the suspension of a match, with Chile as the next rival, on November 16 in Santiago.

The confusion originates in the cards and expulsion raised in the game against Colombia (6-1) in Quito, on November 17, 2020, when the player received a first yellow at minute 60 and one second card at minute 80 after stripping off his shirt in the “excessive celebration” of his score, the 5-1 against the coffee growers, which led to his expulsion and automatic suspension for the date against Brazil, in June.

According to information released by The Soccer Channel, the Ecuadorian Federation received this Friday a reply from FIFA with the detail that “Gonzalo Plata is in a position to play against Chile” having only a yellow card, the one exhibited before the llaneros.

This situation is clarified in the Disciplinary Regulations of Conmebol, that in his article 11 states that “two warnings in the same game lead to expulsion (“indirect” red card) and the automatic suspension for the next game ”, without the first card being valid, contrary to what is meant by an expulsion with a “direct red card,” when “any warning previously received in the course of the same match will remain in effect”, as stipulated in section 6.

With this clarification by regulation, Plata has only one yellow card and will be under the command of coach Gustavo Alfaro to visit the Red.

El DT also recovers the defenders Pervis Estupiñán and Diego Palacios, in addition to the offensive Michael Estrada and Ángel Mena, who paid the suspension for the accumulation of two yellow cards against Venezuela. (D)
