The saga regarding the selection of Fernando Santos’ Polish assistants has been going on for several weeks. At first, it seemed that £ukasz Piszczek and Tomasz Kaczmarek were solid candidates to support the Portuguese coach, but recently both have been further away from taking up new positions.
The legend of Legia in the training staff
On Monday afternoon, there were new reports about another candidate who would join Fernando Santos’ staff. According to both “TVP Sport” and news from Siedlce, the Polish Football Association was to contact the coach of the local Pogoń, Marek Saganowski.
The 44-year-old legend of ŁKS Łódź and Legia Warszawa has been training for over four years. At the beginning, Saganowski was appointed assistant to Aleksandar Vukovic in the team of the then Polish champions – Legia. Later, he managed to record a very decent episode in Motor Lublin, where in 58 games he managed to average 1.66 points per game. The last months in his career are marked by the management of the second-league Pogoń Siedlce, with which he has played four matches so far, winning three of them and drawing one.
Polish accent in a Portuguese machine
Even before the selection of the new head coach of the Polish national team, Cezary Kulesza, the president of PZPN, assured that the new coaching staff would certainly include a national coach who would both support the head coach and improve his skills.
Among young Polish coaches, Marek Saganowski is one of the most promising. His candidacy is also strong due to the club he is currently in charge of, from which it would be relatively easy to pull out.
In order to verify the emerging information, we decided to contact the legend of Legia Warsaw. Unfortunately, his phone was switched off on Monday evening.
