On February 10, it was reported that 46-year-old Kostomarov agreed to the amputation of his fingers in case of a life threat. It was noted that the question of the next operation arose against the background of progressive tissue necrosis.
On February 7, the skater had his left foot amputated. Later it became known that doctors were afraid for the condition of Kostomarov’s right leg and were doing everything possible to save it, despite the tissue dying off.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B.
