Ilya Averbukh said that Roman Kostomarov will need expensive rehabilitation
Choreographer Ilya Averbukh spoke about the treatment of Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the tour “Ice Age. Together again”.
“At the moment, Roma is in the hospital and is provided with everything necessary. However, we all understand that expensive rehabilitation will be required in the future, ”Averbukh shared. He noted that the upcoming tour will be held in support of Kostomarov, and part of the proceeds will go to his rehabilitation.
It was previously reported that doctors are trying to save living tissue on the athlete’s limbs, but amputation of the hands may be required due to progressive necrosis. Surrounded by the skater, they clarified that the decision on the need for another operation would be made in the coming days.
On February 7, the skater had his left foot amputated. Later it became known that doctors feared for the condition of Kostomarov’s right leg. Doctors are doing everything possible to save it, despite the death of the tissue.
46-year-old Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B.
