The Poles lead the Italian steamroller. Amazing feat of Perugia

Trentino has so far been the second power in Italian men’s volleyball this season, but has already lost that title to Modena. Although on Sunday evening they had several chances to do the impossible: beat Perugia in a head-to-head match.

Perugia still undefeated. Trentino had their chances but missed only a point

Still, no one has succeeded. Coach Angelo Lorenzetti’s Trentino also lost, although they were already leading 1-0 after a great first set won 25-19. The next two sets, however, went to Perugia, who played much more freely and thus rose to a higher level. She won the games to 18 and 22, respectively.

In the end, however, a more even set came, in which Trentino prevailed in the end. Perugia picked up a good pace for a while on the final balls and looked like they could close the game in four sets. Coach Lorenzetti even asked for time out fearing for the result and argued through the net with Perugia’s coach Andrea Anastasi. Ultimately, however, his team led to a tie-break, but in it he was much worse than a strong rival. He lost 11:15, and in the whole match 2:3. Perugia once again showed its rivals from the country that it is unbreakable.

Great game Leon. Perugia’s dominance is incredible

Incredibly, Perugia has already won its 19th Serie A match this season and it was its first in five sets. This means that they lost the first point in the current competition, but it does not change anything either in the table – they are still leaders with an advantage of 18 points over second-placed Modena, or in how they will be perceived: they will remain the biggest dominator of Italian volleyball in recent years. Of course, they must confirm theirs in the most important matches of the season: the play-off phase of both the Italian Championship and the Champions League, as well as the final matches of the Coppa Italia.

In Sunday’s match, Kamil Semeniuk and Wilfredo Leon remained on the pitch throughout the match. The former player of ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle scored 10 points, maintaining 40 percent effectiveness in attack and 54 percent positive reception. Leon, on the other hand, played a great game – he scored 19 points, attacking with an efficiency of 61 percent and a 41 percent reception efficiency. Poles have been running this Italian roller for many weeks in a really great style.

The Italian giant still has three matches of the main phase of the league games. The next one, on Sunday, February 19, they will play against Cisterna. A little later, on February 25, they will face Piacenza in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia.
