West Ham drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Saturday in the 22nd round of the Premier League. The visitors led from the 16th minute thanks to Joao Felix’s goal, but 12 minutes later, the club’s former Stamford Bridge player Emerson equalized.
Before the match at the London Stadium, there was a brawl between fans of both teams. A brawl that will not be well remembered by one Chelsea fan. Not only did the man miss the match, but he also lost several teeth and was left with a broken jaw.
It all started with verbal scuffles between fans of both teams. A young man, a Chelsea supporter, entered the discussion and targeted one of the West Ham fans. “You’re over 50,” he yelled at the older man, waving his arms.
Chelsea fan knocked out
The situation became much more serious when a Chelsea fan was slapped. This, however, did not end his behavior. In the end, he was knocked down hard with a strong right hook from a West Ham fan.
The younger man was given immediate assistance and the older man was arrested. The situation was greeted with euphoria by West Ham fans who recorded it in its entirety. After this incident, the fans of both teams were separated by the police and escorted to the stands.
Chelsea defender Reece James commented after the match. “I received news that a fan was punched and knocked out before the match. I completely understand the rivalry between teams in prestigious matches, but violence is not the answer,” he wrote.
“I hope he’s okay. As always, I greatly appreciate your presence at away matches. Stay with us and stay safe. See you in Dortmund,” he added.
Chelsea’s next game is on Wednesday. It will be a match against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
