It was hard not to have goosebumps. “It kicks.” It’s high time for Kubacki’s attack

and on Saturday they jumped in Lake Placid as many as six times. In the morning they started in the qualification for the individual competition and then in this competition, while in the evening they made three jumps in the super duos competition.

The mood in the first part of the day was completely different than in the second. Then Kubacki was fifth, and ¯y³a – only 19th. In the evening of American time, they stood on the top step of the podium together. And after singing “Mazurka Dąbrowski” with several thousand Polish people present under the hill, new energy arose in both. And this is especially valuable for Kubacki.

Kubacki: “It will give a kick for the next starts”. May!

The second individual competition will take place on Sunday in Lake Placid. In the first Kubacki was fifth, scored 45 points in the general classification and made up 9 points from the loss he has to . The Norwegian finished only seventh after 12 podiums in a row. After 21 out of 32 individual competitions of the season, Granerud has a clear advantage over Kubacki. That’s 229 points. But suddenly – after a great series of podiums, after four victories in a row (in Bad Mitterndorf and Willingen) the Norwegian shows some weakness. And Kubacki seems to come back to life.

In the super duo competition, Kubacki was by far the best individually.

You can clearly see how evenly Kubacki jumped. Yes, Kraft had a great jump, which won the first series. Yes, Granerud’s last jump was better than Kubacki’s last jump. But looking at the whole – we have a picture of David so equal and so stabilized at the highest level, which we have not seen in recent starts.

– We jumped evenly, it’s nice and I think that this is the biggest plus and that it will give us a kick for the next starts – said our vice-leader of the World Cup in front of the Eurosport camera. – What I managed to do in the last jump in the morning, in the individual competition [wtedy awansował z 10. na piąte miejsce], here it worked very well, from the first jump. The latter was admittedly very late, but after all, after subtle changes, even though the energy went into the air, there was enough of it to be able to fly away anyway. This is amazing to me,” he added.

Granerud worried

Kubacki is not the type of sportsman and man who, after winning the euphoria, will announce the next great things. But his body language is clear – he will fight. The loss to Graneruda is big, there are not many competitions left, but there are still enough to make up for the loss. You just need to jump well. You just need to find new energy. And that the victory in Lake Placid, in front of the Polish community, was refreshing for Kubacki, we all saw it.

– Of course, the loudest was when Kubacki jumped – noted Granerud in Eurosport, who praised the atmosphere of the competition in , but was clearly worried about his performances. – The results were not the best for me. I didn’t understand what was going on, I had problems, it was pointless. But it got better from jump to jump, he said.

Granerud knocked out, Kubacki seems to get up

I wonder if this last, already really successful, jump from Saturday will give Granerud more confidence on Sunday. But it’s interesting for us. Kubacki, on the other hand, should not think about Graneruda for a moment. He must have taken a second breath. He must try to make the most of it.

Making up nine points on Saturday is just a drop in the bucket if you want to think about the Crystal Ball. On Sunday, Kubacki can fight for victory. And make up for Graneruda more. A counter-attack after what the Norwegian did in Bad Mitterndorf and Willingen would be fine for a World Cup race. In Austria and Germany in four competitions Granerud scored 400 points out of 400 possible, and Kubacki – only 116.

During these two weekends, the Norwegian knocked out the Pole, with whom he had fought a very even fight from the beginning of the season and whom he was chasing for a long time. In these two weekends from +48 points in the “general” for Kubacki it became – looking from his perspective – minus 238 points. If Dawid is to try to reverse it, he must start here and now – with new energy and on “his” territory in “Polish”.
