61-year-old Russian rider Tuganov joined the Palestine national team to compete at the Olympics

Russian rider Vladimir Tuganov changed sports citizenship. This was announced to TASS by the head coach of the Russian equestrian team Vladimir Beletsky.

Beletsky said that the 61-year-old athlete moved to the Palestinian national team. “He doesn’t have time to calmly wait for the Russians to return to international competitions, every year is expensive. There are not many years left in his sports career, so he wants to compete now and try to qualify for his third Olympics, ”the coach explained.

Beletsky noted that the decision to change sports citizenship was very difficult for Tuganov. “He waited until the very end for the Russians to return to the international arena again. As soon as Russian athletes are admitted, Vladimir Petrovich will definitely return, ”the specialist added.

Tuganov, who competes in show jumping, took part in the 2004 and 2012 Games as part of the Russian national team. In tournaments, he showed the 33rd and 65th result, respectively.

At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned Russians from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. In some disciplines, such as tennis, chess, motorsport and MMA, athletes continue to compete in neutral status.
