Australian Sports Minister Wells supported the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympics
Australian Sports Minister Anika Wells commented on the statement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the possible admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Games in Paris. Her words are quoted by Inside the Games.
“We support the IOC plan to explore the possibility of allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in international competitions under strict conditions of neutrality,” Wells said. She added that respect for human rights and peaceful relations between peoples form the basis of international sport.

On February 10, Lithuanian Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Syugzhdinene announced the creation of a group of 35 countries opposing the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympics. According to her, these states include France, Japan, Great Britain, the USA and Germany.
On January 25, the IOC issued a statement on the need to consider the possibility of returning the Russians to international tournaments in a neutral status. It was clarified that only those athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to perform.
