25-year-old Belgian FC Winkel-Sport goalkeeper Espil dies after saving a penalty
Belgian football club Winkel Sport young goalkeeper Arne Espil fainted after saving a penalty and died while being taken to hospital, according to Het Nieuwsblad.
During a match against Westrosebeck, the 25-year-old goalkeeper saved a penalty kick from an attacker from the opposing team, after which he fainted on the lawn. Doctors gave him first aid and tried to resuscitate him with a defibrillator in an ambulance on the way to the hospital, but they failed to save the athlete.
“This is a tragedy and a shock for us. Arne has been at the club all his life and was very much loved,” said Patrick Rothsart, president of the Winkel Sport club.
According to him, this incident is a tragedy for his family, as well as for the entire team.
Earlier it became known that the former player of the Austrian national football team Volkan Kahraman was shot dead on the street. The 43-year-old had an argument with a former business partner near a bar in Vienna. The attacker shot the athlete, and then committed suicide.
