The Pole equaled the official hill record. A dream jump in qualifying

The Ski Jumping World Cup has returned to the United States after a 19-year hiatus. The last time the jumpers competed on American facilities was in the 2003/04 season. Then there were competitions in Park City. The hill at Lake Placid, which hosts the competition this weekend, hosted competitions for the last time in December 1990. Unfortunately, Friday’s competition program was torpedoed by the conditions and the interrupted qualifying was moved to Saturday.

Lake Placid. Wellinger wins the qualification, five Poles in the competition

The winner of the qualification for Saturday’s competition was Andreas Wellinger, who soared as much as 132.5 meters, which is a new official hill record. Halvor Egner Granerud (123 meters) also showed a very good jump and took second place. The podium was completed by Stefan Kraft after a jump of 122.5 meters. The best of the Poles – Piotr Żyła – finished the competition in 6th place.

In the main competition, which will start at 16:00 Polish time, five representatives of Poland will perform. Dawid Kubacki jumped 118 meters and took the 8th place. In turn, Tomasz Pilch jumped 124.5 meters and took 10th place. According to Adam Bucholz from the portal skijumping.pl, for a moment the Pole was the official record holder of the facility in Lake Placid. He equaled the achievement of the legendary Matti Nykaenen in 1983. However, the above-mentioned Andreas Wellinger landed even further in the qualifications and he currently holds the record. The unofficial hill record is 135.5 meters and belongs to Veli-Matti Lindstroem.
