Friday’s qualifier was to be the first World Cup rated series held in the United States since February 2004. Then, for the last time, the world of ski jumping appeared in Park City, where the best athletes in the world competed on the Olympic facilities.
Unfortunately, even before the start of the qualifying series, it was known that it would not be easy to carry it out. On Friday, in New York state, a fairly strong wind blew, which torpedoed the previously planned test series.
Fighting the wind
Unfortunately, the wind made itself felt at the beginning of qualifying. Because of this, the start of jumping on Friday evening was slightly delayed. The first change was to postpone the start of the competition to 23:15 Polish time, as the forecasts were slightly better.
When Tate Frantz, opening the starting list, sat on the beam, it seemed that the qualifications would be held. Unfortunately, another player, Decker Dean, had very big problems after leaving the threshold, which landed him at 60 meters.
The series was discontinued very quickly. After the jumps of five competitors, the jury decided to stop the series and give themselves some time to talk and decide whether it is worth fighting further. Finally, after more than thirty minutes from the scheduled start of the competition, the organizers decided to cancel Friday’s qualifications and move them to Saturday morning, more precisely to 14:30 Polish time.
