Fatal news for ski jumpers in the World Cup. It’s bad, and it could be even worse

This weekend, February 10-12, the Ski Jumping World Cup will host Lake Placid for the first time in 32 years. Two individual competitions and one duet competition will be held on the modernized hill. Six White and Reds will take part in the competition: Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Źyła, Paweł Wąsek, Jan Habdas, Tomasz Pilch and Aleksander Zniszczoł. There will be no Kamil Stoch, who will be fighting for his return to form in Poland at that time. Last weekend in Willingen, it was the wind that dealt the cards, and it seems that a similar situation will occur in America.

World Cup in ski jumping: Difficult weather conditions again. Friday practice and qualifying at Lake Placid at risk

The first weather forecasts are not optimistic. Particularly difficult conditions are to prevail on Friday, February 10, when the jumpers will train and take part in the qualifications. Forecasters predict heavy rainfall, which will be accompanied by gusty winds, reaching up to 8 meters per second. Earlier forecasts said 4 meters per second. It is possible that in these conditions it will not be possible to hold sessions scheduled for Friday, which means that qualifying may be moved to Saturday.

This plan is becoming more and more real. As Dominik Formela from the Skijumping.pl portal informed, the weather deteriorated drastically on Thursday evening. “In Lake Placid, as announced, it started to rain and blow. The weather is also expected to be unsettled on Friday, with the Saturday morning qualifying scenario in the background,” the journalist wrote on Twitter.

. According to media reports, in the evenings it was even minus 32 degrees Celsius. It seems, however, that the cold should not be a problem (temperatures are supposed to oscillate around 0 degrees). The biggest concern for the players on Friday may be gusty winds.

Fortunately, the weather forecasts for the remaining two competition days are much more optimistic. On Saturday and Sunday, the conditions on the hill are to return to normal, which means that it will probably be possible to hold the competition without major obstacles.
