A historic weekend in P¦ in jumping. That hasn’t happened yet

This weekend the ski jumpers will compete in Lake Placid, where the World Cup competition was last held 33 years ago. The organizers have planned two individual competitions. The first on Saturday, February 11, and the second the day after. On the first day of the competition, the first historical duet competition will also take place.

This formula was tested during the Summer Grand Prix in Rasnov. Then Stefan Hula and Paweł Wąsek presented themselves very well, taking second place. The victory was enjoyed by the Austrians, and the podium was completed by representatives of Japan. The remaining positions in the top eight were taken by teams from Norway, Switzerland, Slovenia, the United States and Germany. On Saturday, the duet competition will make its World Cup debut.

Two players will take part in the competition, and each of them will be able to make a maximum of three jumps. After the first series, the number of competing teams will be reduced to 12, and the top eight duos will advance to the decisive third series. In Lake Placid, at the start, we can see teams from 14 countries that entered their representatives to fight in Friday’s qualifiers. Thus, in the fight for the historic victory in the duet competition, we will probably see jumpers from Austria, Germany, Poland, Norway, Canada, Japan, Finland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Estonia, Italy, Romania, Kazakhstan and the United States.

Thomas Thurnbichler’s squad for the overseas competition included Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Żyła, Paweł Wąsek, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Jan Habdas and Tomasz Pilch.
