The first coach of the Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov, Lidia Karavaeva, commented on another amputation threatening the skater. It is reported by KP.RU.
“Nothing is over yet. Now the main thing is that Roma survive. He is either better or worse, ”said the coach. She confirmed the information that the 46-year-old athlete faces amputation of the fingers. Karavaeva added that the skater is surrounded by a family that gives him great support.
Earlier on February 9, Channel Five reported that Kostomarov could have his hands amputated due to progressive necrosis. It was noted that doctors are trying to save living tissue on the athlete’s limbs in order to prevent another operation.
On February 7, the skater underwent an operation to amputate his left foot. Later it was reported that doctors feared for the condition of Kostomarov’s right leg. Doctors are doing everything possible to save it, despite the death of the tissue.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B.
