On Wednesday, the Polish freak fight environment was shocked by the news of the death of Mateusz Murański. “Muran”, who was a celebrity more than an athlete, fought, among others, in for the High League and Fame MMA federations. One of his most difficult fights was with Kasjusz “Don Kasjo” Życiński, the co-owner and face of Prime MMA.
– Tough, really hard duel – commentators said after “Muran” was counted several times, but he got up. In the end, he lasted all four rounds and lost to Kasjusz “Don Kasjo” Życiński on points. We decided to reminisce about that fight with Życiński.
– My memories? Positive. We fought together, and that brings the players closer in a way. This fight will be a nice souvenir for me. As for the fight itself, many experts say that I was facing the best version of “Muran” then. And I think they’re right. Mateusz didn’t need any extra motivation to fight me. He knew he was fighting the king of freaks, so he was well prepared and gave 200 percent.
And he adds after a moment: – And he hit really hard. Of course, it wasn’t the strength of “Popek” and we fought in small gloves, but I felt his blows more than “Wrzod” [Marcin Wrzosek] or Sticks [“Norman Parke”]ie professionals.
After the loss to “Don Kasjo”, Murański quickly bounced back with a win over Alan Kwieciñski, but later lost three fights in a row. He lost a rematch with Tańcala, a clash with a retired professional Vaso Bakocević, and recently – in December 2022 – he fell with Paweł Bomba. This last defeat hurt him deeply, because Bomba had lost his previous two fights, going down after only the first blow he received.
In addition, there was a lot of hate on “Muran”, because although the fight was contracted on kickboxing terms, Murański knocked down his rival and often fouled. After the fight, he explained that it was all in the heat of the fight, but the fans did not care. On the internet, they equated him with mud. A few weeks later, there were voices that “Muran” took it hard. He was mainly talked about in the context of alleged drug use. The 29-year-old was even supposed to be in rehab.
– I feel sorry for the boy. But I hope that his death will be a warning to the freak community and even the whole show business. So that they don’t f**k so much. So that they do not mix psychotropics, steroids and drugs in one evening. I observe this world closely and I know what is going on. I could have fun myself or spend half a million in the casino, but I have a strong character, so one day I said to myself “stop” and stopped. But not everyone can do that. The social pressure is the worst. Someone refuses a line, and then only hears: “No, come on! Don’t be a bream, play with us.” I understand that you can feel good for a while after it, but the next day you regret it. And those who do not regret it, probably just go to another ballet – says Sport.pl “Don Kasjo”, and you will find his entire statement.
Mateusz Murański was also inseparably associated with his father – Jacek. He became famous for his very controversial, rude statements during press conferences and freak galas. Murański senior even fought three fights for the Fame MMA federation, but he failed to win any.
– In the end, “Muran” gave the impression of a kind, warm boy. We didn’t really know each other personally, but I heard a lot of similar opinions. I think he was a good boy who was destroyed by freak fights. He was a sensitive guy inside, but in front of the cameras he had to play a hottie. Maybe he felt a lot of pressure from his father and didn’t want to let him down? And he was definitely dependent on Mr. Jacek. They practically didn’t separate. I’m not saying it’s bad that he was close to his father, but maybe “Mr. Jacek found himself perfectly in the specific world of freaks, and Mateusz was not made for it and something was bothering him inside. All the additions could only intensify this feeling – sums up “Don Kasjo”.
Mateusz Murański also tried his hand at acting. The 29-year-old began his career in the series “Lombard. Life under pawn” and later even played in Jerzy Skolimowski’s Oscar-nominated film “IO”.
