In the UK, they opposed the participation of the Russian team in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. It is reported by Sky News.
“We and indeed many other countries have an unequivocal position on this issue, and we want to make sure that we continue to speak with one voice,” said British Prime Minister spokesman Rishi Sunaka.
Earlier on Wednesday, February 8, French government spokesman Olivier Veran said that a decision on the admission of Russians to the 2024 Games would be made in the summer of 2023. He added that the French authorities will continue to implement international sanctions against Russia.
On January 25, the International Olympic Committee announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. Athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will have a chance to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
