Makhachev team member faces fine and jail time for feeding quokkas in Australia
Team member of Russian Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion Islam Makhachev faces punishment for feeding quokkas in Australia. It is reported by Perth Now.
The man was threatened with imprisonment for up to five years, since in the country the feeding of rare animals, including quokka, is prohibited at the legislative level. In addition, a fine of $35,000 could be imposed on him.
In Australia, Makhachev is preparing for a duel with the representative of the country, Alexander Volkanovski. Athletes will meet on the night of February 12. The fight will take place at lightweight. Thus, the featherweight champion Volkanovski, who currently leads the ranking of the best UFC fighters, will change the category, and Makhachev will defend the champion title for the first time.
On October 23, Makhachev defeated Brazilian Charles Oliveira in a duel at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The 31-year-old Russian defeated his opponent by choke and became the organization’s lightweight champion.
