Unanimously, the twenty clubs in the English competition point out that the proposal would “threaten” the well-being of footballers, among other aspects.
All twenty English Premier League clubs have unanimously opposed FIFA’s proposal to host a World Cup every two years starting in 2026.
The teams have highlighted that these proposals by the director of world football would have a negative impact on the well-being of footballers, the experience of the fans, the preseason of the players and the overall quality of the competition.
“The Premier League is committed to preventing any kind of radical change by FIFA from 2024 that undermines the well-being of footballers and threatens the competitiveness, schedule, structures and traditions of domestic football,” said Richard. Masters, executive president of the Premier.
“We are open to reforms and new ideas, but there must be a balance between domestic competitions and international football to improve the sport at all levels. This process, in addition, must lead through agreements with the leagues ”, added Masters.
The Premier League also does not see with good eyes an extension of the windows of international matches that, instead of being played throughout the year, would be concentrated in a single month, according to what FIFA proposes. (D)
