Jordy Caicedo reappears on his Instagram account after the earthquake in Turkey

After a day of the earthquake that destroyed several towns in Turkey, Ecuadorian striker Jordy Caicedo reported through his Instagram account that he is well with his family.

Early Monday morning, the 7.8-magnitude earthquake caused extensive damage in central and southern Turkey, as well as in northern Syria, and authorities fear the death toll may exceed 5,000.

Caicedo signed weeks ago with the Sivasspor squad, from the city of Sivas, in the eastern European country, after being loaned out by the Tigres club, from Mexico, owner of his sports rights, after his poor performance in the last semester of 2022.

“I want to publicly thank all those people who wrote to me and cared about me and my family. I want to tell you that thank God we are fine and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your shows of support, ”wrote the 25-year-old tricolor, a native of Machala, in a story on his account on the Instagram social network.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which had a depth of 10 kilometers, is located 23 kilometers from the Nurdağı district, in southwestern Turkey, which is why it was also felt in Syria and Lebanon.

At least 3,419 people have been killed in Turkey and 1,602 in Syria. Another telluric movement, of 7.5 degrees, shook the country on the same day.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan described it as the country’s “biggest disaster” since 1939, when a massive earthquake struck the eastern province of Erzincan.

In 1999, a quake of similar magnitude devastated Izmit and the densely populated eastern Marmara Sea region near Istanbul, killing more than 17,000 people. (D)
