Xavier Arreaga was one of the defenders who were part of Ecuador’s roster in Qatar 2022. The footballer regretted that the Argentine Gustavo Alfaro has not renewed his contract to continue commanding the national team.

Alfaro’s link with Ecuafútbol ended once the tricolor participation in the World Cup ended and in January it became official that he would not continue as DT.
“It was very hard news, because we had formed a beautiful family, a beautiful group. The teacher was the head of it. We know that each one of us is grateful for what he did for the country. As a professional and a human being, I will always wish him the best,” said the player.
Arreaga is a member of the Seattle Sounders, of United States soccer (MLS, for its acronym in English), and his goal is to make the leap to European soccer.
“One of my dreams is to go out and play in European football. I want to end this season with the team in the best possible way; but, if a link can be made with a team from abroad, that is what I am looking for, ”he commented in a conversation with the radio BELIEVE.
The defender recalled his time at Barcelona SC and stressed that Ecuadorian football has been growing in recent years.
“I have had the privilege of being in two large institutions: Barcelona, now in Seattle. Ecuadorian soccer is a reality that is growing every time, ”he concluded. (D)
