Premier League clubs want City relegated after accusations of financial wrongdoing

O Manchester City not only got involved in a big mess with the Premier League, but also with other clubs. After the team is accused of breaking several financial rules, their rivals in the First Division want their relegation.

The director of one of the 19 teams competing in the competition told the portal The Sun that some teams expect the league to “properly” punish City.

“If the accusations are proven, there must be adequate and appropriate punishment. We are talking about almost a decade of alleged abuse and we want the Premier League to make it right,” he said.

Among the accusations, the Premier League alleges that Manchester City was not transparent regarding its revenues and the contracts of its athletes. The entity also understands that the team violated UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, also breaking the league’s rules on profitability and sustainability.

Investigations began in March 2019. In all, the Premier League pointed out more than 100 team offenses in the period. The accusations have been forwarded so that an independent commission can analyze the case.

Among the punishments that Manchester City can face are the loss of points in the national championship, replay of matches, prohibition of registration of new athletes and even expulsion from the league.
