The 2022/23 season is very bad for Swiss ski jumpers. The current leader of the team Gregor Deschwanden (121 points) only recently started to score regularly in the World Cup, and the rest of the team fails all the way. Dominik Peter, Killian Peier and Simon Ammann are having trouble even qualifying for the competitions, with all three scoring just eight points this season.
Eight years and done. The Swiss jumpers will have a new coach
On Monday, the Swiss association issued a statement in which it announced that the current head coach of the Swiss, Ronny Hornschuh, will only hold this position until the end of the 2022/23 season. It has not been announced who will replace him in this role.
“The recent lack of development of the national team in ski jumping made the Swiss Ski Association, together with Ronny Hornschuh, decide to stop further cooperation at the end of the current season. In a frank and open discussion, both sides admitted that a change was needed in the position of the head coach of the team, which should bring a breath of fresh air to the men’s team” –
– Ronny Hornschuh has done a great job for Swiss ski jumping in recent years. We could use his expertise, both in terms of player development and the coaching staff. I would like to thank him wholeheartedly for many years of cooperation. There are still a few more important events until the end of the season and I wish Ronny and our team every success, said Berni Schoedler, ski jumping director of the Swiss association.
The coach himself also referred to this decision. – Eight years of work in Switzerland shaped me as a person and a coach. It was a very valuable and above all a nice experience, culminating in the bronze medal of Killian Peier at the 2019 World Championships. Now it’s time for me to make room for new forces and ideas in the Swiss Ski Association. I want to develop further, I am ready for new challenges – said Hornschuh.
The biggest success of the Swiss coach was certainly the bronze medal of the World Championships of Killian Peier on the large hill in 2019. In addition, athletes from Switzerland stood on the podium of the World Cup twice – once by Simon Ammann and once by Killian Peier.
