‘Monkey, monkey’, racist insults from Mallorca fans to Vinicius are investigated by La Liga in Spain

Spain’s professional soccer league, La Liga, announced on Monday the opening of an investigation into new racist words against Real Madrid striker Vinicius in the lost championship match (1-0) on Sunday in Mallorca.

In images broadcast by the Spanish chain DAZNat least one viewer can be heard calling the Brazilian “monkey”.

In La Liga, leaders FC Barcelona increase their point advantage over Real Madrid with a win against Sevilla

“Given the events that occurred in the RCD Mallorca – Real Madrid match, in which once again intolerable racist insults were observed against the Madrid player Vinicius Jr, LaLiga is putting all the technical means at its disposal and working with the local club for the identification of those responsible, with the aim of taking the appropriate legal measures”, affirms the organization.

The 22-year-old Brazilian international has been at the center of several racist incidents for the past few months, which have been the subject of judicial investigations.

At the end of January, a doll wearing a Vinicius shirt was hung from a bridge in Madrid before the derby against Atlético in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.

Last week, the Spanish commission against violence in sport announced that Valladolid fans would be sanctioned for using racist insults against the player in a championship match at the end of December.

And in September, some Atlético fans had been filmed chanting racist words hostile to Vinicius before the league match between the two teams.

The investigation carried out by the police did not allow the identification of the authors of these racist chants.

After the game in Valladolid, Vinicius had accused LaLiga of not acting against racism in football.

In Mallorca, Vinicius was the victim of ten fouls and is the player to have suffered the most offenses in the five major European championships. (D)
