Friday’s competition at Muhlenkopfschanze was not the fairest. Due to the strong wind, the results of individual competitors often depended on luck.
Dangerously far
Timi Zajc found out about it. His flight ended more than fourteen meters behind the size of the hill. The Slovene jumped exactly 161.5 meters.
The attempt of one of the best jumpers in the world quickly caused quite a storm. Both fans and observers, as well as the players themselves, were outraged at the player’s exposure to danger, and they did not spare harsh words at the organizers and judges.
FIS hit
Two of them decided to directly talk about the whole situation in an interview with the portal sport.de. One of the best German ski jumpers of recent years, Karl Geiger, and the overall winner of the World Cup over two decades ago, Andreas Goldberger, decided to speak. Both stars admitted that a similar situation should never happen again.
“To put it bluntly, what happened to Timi shouldn’t have happened. His jump was very dangerous. I hope he’s okay and won’t feel the fall in the future. Such jumps can end very badly – said Geiger.
– It is very difficult to describe such a jump. The landing attempt was doomed to failure. You can compare it to a five-meter drop onto a flat surface or a squat with a 285-kilogram barbell, added Goldberger.
Ultimately, the Slovene, despite the fall, came out of the whole situation unscathed. In Saturday’s individual competition he managed to finish the competition in twelfth place, after two jumps slightly behind the construction point. However, many fans will count on his even better result on Sunday.
