Opening the 20th round of the Spanish Championship, Athletic Bilbao thrashed Cádiz 4-1 this Friday at San Mamés. Midfielder Sancet scored three times and Yeray completed, while Escalante scored for the visitors.

After 10 minutes of play, Bilbao opened the scoring. After a cross in the area, Oihan Sancet had the upper hand and hit the corner. In the 25th minute, Cádiz showed signs that they would react in the match and tied with Gonzalo Escalante.
Afterwards, Sancet received an assist from Raúl García and scored Athletic Bilbao’s second goal. At the end of the first stage, Muniaín took a corner kick in the area, found defender Yeray to head in and widen the scoreboard.
In the 12th minute of the second half, full-back Yuri Berchiche tackled the Cádiz player hard, received the second yellow card and was expelled. With one more, the visitors rehearsed a pressure to seek the tie.
In the final stretch of the match, after a corner hit in Cádiz’s attacking field, Bilbao’s defense pulled away and found Nico Williams. The youngster gave Sancet a header pass to start the counterattack. Upon dominating, the midfielder corrected a strong kick to score his third goal of the night and decreed the rout.
With the victory, Bilbao rose to seventh place in the Spanish Championship with 29 points, but could be overtaken in the table throughout the 20th round. Cádiz, on the other hand, is in 18th place with 19 points and could sink even further if Getafe wins.
