The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has asked Fifa, Uefa and Conmebol to take strong measures against the racism suffered by some players in Brazil, such as striker Vinícius Júnior, from Real Madrid.
The organization sent a letter this week to football authorities asking for stronger actions and awareness to combat racial discrimination, the CBF reported this Friday.
The request comes a week after the case in which a doll appeared hanging from a bridge in the Spanish capital simulating the hanging of Vinícius Jr. before the derby between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey.
“It is essential that racism be fought firmly. Cases like what has been happening with Vinicius Junior and so many other athletes are unacceptable,” said CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues on Thursday at the opening of the Football Court Seminar FIFA, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro.
“They have reached a point that goes beyond the attack on dignity and already threatens the physical integrity of the victims”, added the leader.
Rodrigues, the first black president of the CBF, made the fight against racism one of the priorities of his administration, which began in March 2022.
He met with the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, in Brasília last Saturday to discuss the fight against racism in football and the case of Vini Jr., according to CBF.
