Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland Kamil Bortnichuk named the number of countries opposing the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games (OI). It is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to him, about 40 states take this position. On February 10, the ministers of sports of these countries will hold a meeting at which it is planned to reach a consensus on the issue of opposing the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Games.

Bortnichuk also praised the chances of a boycott of the Olympics by Ukraine and other countries in the event that Russians and Belarusians are allowed to participate in the tournament. At the same time, he urged not to rush into making a decision. “We have time for this. Games in the middle of next year. Instead of immediately humiliating partners, you should first give a chance for self-reflection, ”the functionary said.

On January 30, the IOC made a new statement on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international tournaments. The organization considered that the concept of the speech of representatives of countries under a neutral flag has worked well and is now being discussed by members of the committee.

In response to this statement, Gutzeit threatened to boycott the 2024 Olympics in Paris. He was supported by Polish Minister of Sports Kamil Bortnichuk and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Latvia Georges Tikmers.
