The NOC of Ukraine opposed the admission of Russians and Belarusians to international competitions
Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit said that the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine is against the participation of Russians and Belarusians in international tournaments. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
The functionary noted that the Ukrainian side decided to appeal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the head of the organization Thomas Bach and all international sports federations on this matter. “While our Motherland is being bombed, while we are fighting for our independence, our integrity, we have a great desire not to see Russian and Belarusian athletes,” Gutzeit said.
On January 30, the IOC made a new statement on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international tournaments. The organization considered that the concept of the speech of representatives of countries under a neutral flag has worked well and is now being discussed by members of the committee.
In response to this statement, Gutzeit threatened to boycott the 2024 Olympics in Paris. He was supported by Polish Minister of Sports Kamil Bortnichuk and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Latvia Georges Tikmers.
