Saúl’s spell at Chelsea seems to have its days numbered. The defensive midfielder has yet to adapt to Thomas Tuchel’s playing style and is unlikely to remain at Stamford Bridge next season.
According to the newspaper Express, the Blues would be considering returning it to Atlético de Madrid in January and will not exercise the purchase clause agreed in their loan.
The 26-year-old has played in just five matches, accumulating a total of 238 minutes and no goals.
On Saúl’s debut, coach Tuchel was frustrated with the athlete’s performance.
“Replacing him was a difficult decision, Saúl was struggling and I take responsibility because I threw him in a complicated game. He didn’t adapt physically and took him out of the field so that he wouldn’t lose more confidence”, he commented.
Chelsea returns to the field on the 20th, against Leicester City, in a game valid for the 12th round of the Premier League, at Stamford Bridge.
