The Football Director BarcelonaMateu Alemany, said the Catalan club failed to sign Mexican winger Julián Araujo, from Los Angeles Galaxy, “by 18 seconds” last Monday, the day the transfer window closed.
“We didn’t arrive on time due to a computer error that was being resolved,” Alemany said on Wednesday in remarks to the broadcaster. Movistar+ just before the game against Betis, for the Spanish Championship.
“It’s probably because of the system. Since it’s 18 seconds, I don’t know what FIFA will do,” he added.
Alemany wanted to make it clear that Julián Araujo “is a player coming to Barcelona Atletic”, a branch of the Catalan team coached by Mexican Rafa Márquez that plays in the Spanish Third Division.
Araujo’s arrival would be an alternative to replace full-back Héctor Bellerin, who left for Sporting.
