San Jose Earthquakes of the Major League Soccer announced the signing of the Ecuadorian midfielder Carlos Gruezowho moves from Bundesliga FC Augsburg on a three-year contract.
“Carlos joins us at the best moment of his career after successful campaigns in South America, Major League Soccer and Europe”, said Chris Leitch, general manager of the Earthquakes, at the announcement of the incorporation of the Ecuadorian World Cup player.

“Carlos spent the last few seasons in one of the best leagues in the world and previously he showed that he can be among the best players in his position in the MLS”, said Leitch, for the passing of the tricolor by FC Dallas between 2016 and 2019.
In the Bundesliga, Gruezo played 75 games in all competitions with FC Augsburg, 15 of which were in the 202-2023 season.
“I hope to see you soon at the stadium, we need your support. May this year be a good season and we can win a title”, said the Ecuadorian in a video shared by the social networks of his new club.
“He’s a hard worker and has the obvious tools in terms of ball recovery and intensity. It is a position in which we need competence, leadership and experience.. With his signing, I think we have a midfield that can compete with the best in the league,” he said. Luchi González, technical director of the San Jose Earthquakes, who already worked with Gruezo in his final stage with Dallas.
The tricolor arrives in the MLS after its participation in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Gruezo’s second appointment with the Ecuadorian team, after the tournament in Brazil in 2014.
“Gruezo got a green card during his time with FC Dallas, what qualifies him as a national player in the MLS lists, so he will not use a foreign quota, ”said his new club, based in California. (D)
