The Ministry of Sports said that Russian athletes were invited to competitions in Africa
Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Alexei Morozov spoke about proposals for the participation of domestic athletes in international tournaments. His words are quoted by TASS.
“The Association of National Olympic Committees of Asia is waiting for us in March. There is a similar statement from the countries of Africa, which unanimously come forward with a proposal to compete in their competitions, ”Morozov shared. He noted that now it is necessary to wait for a decision from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and international federations, which should formulate the criteria for admitting Russian athletes to tournaments.
On January 26, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the Asian Games, which will be held in autumn 2023 in China. OCA Acting President Randhir Singh said that a special quota system will be developed for athletes, thanks to which they will be able to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned Russians from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. In some disciplines, athletes continue to perform in a neutral status.
