Benfica defeats Arouca and extends its good phase in the Portuguese Championship

O Benfica won once again by Portuguese Championship this Tuesday. The Lisbon team visited Arouca, at Estádio Municipal de Arouca, and had goals from João Mário (2) and Petar Musa to win a 3-0 victory.

The visitors reached their fourth straight game unbeaten. With that, they remain isolated at the top of the Portuguese Championship, with 50 points, ten more than vice-leader Braga, who have two rounds less. Benfica’s next match will be on Saturday, at 3 pm (Brasília time), at Estádio da Luz.

Arouca is in seventh place, with 26 points, but may lose a position until the end of the round. The team’s next challenge will be against Gil Vicente, on Sunday, at 5:30 pm, away from home.

Benfica opened the scoring after a beautiful exchange of passes. In the 24th minute of the first half, David Neres received it at the edge of the area and dug in for Fredrik Aursnes, who left free at the back of the defense, facing the goal. Norueguês rolled back and João Mário pushed to the bottom of the net.

At 8 minutes of the second half, the duo worked again. Aursnes received it at the edge of the area and backheeled for João Mário to arrive. The Portuguese hit the bottom right corner and extended Benfica’s advantage. After 35 minutes, it was Petar Musa’s turn to score. David Neres was thrown into the area and brought down. The ball was left and the Croatian striker arrived hitting the goal, 3 to 0.

Also on Tuesday, Paços de Ferreira defeated Gil Vicente by 2-1. At the Mata Real Stadium, the hosts achieved their second victory this season in the Portuguese Championship with goals from Adrián Butzke and Nuno Lima. Even with the good result, the team remains in the last position of the table, with nine points in 19 games.
