Russian UFC fighter Islam Makhachev said that Australia reminds him of Makhachkala

Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Islam Makhachev spoke about preparing for the fight with Australian Alexander Volkanovski in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). His words are reported by Match TV.

“After the last fight, I almost didn’t rest, I immediately began to train. The first stage was held in Makhachkala, the second stage went to Elbrus, spent two weeks in the mountains. And in 20 days I arrived in Australia, ”said the athlete. He compared Australia with Russia and noted that the country reminds him of Makhachkala.

Makhachev and Volkanovski will fight on the night of February 12th. The lightweight fight will take place in Australia at UFC 284. Thus, the featherweight champion Volkanovski, who currently leads the ranking of the best fighters in the promotion, will change the category, and Makhachev will defend the title for the first time.

On October 23, Makhachev defeated Brazilian Charles Oliveira in a duel at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The 31-year-old Russian defeated his opponent by choke and became the organization’s lightweight champion.
