President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov reacted negatively to calls to boycott the 2024 Games in Paris. The functionary spoke in his Telegram channel.
“Everyone who is now calling on us to boycott the Olympics, regardless of the reasoning, should be clearly aware that this kind of demarche is a direct path to isolating all domestic sports for at least two Olympic cycles,” Pozdnyakov said. He also noted that history does not know examples when the boycott had a positive impact on the development of sports in the country.
Earlier on January 30, two-time Olympic biathlon champion Dmitry Vasiliev spoke out against the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games in a neutral status. According to him, athletes should boycott the competition if they are deprived of the flag and anthem.
Earlier in the day, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a new announcement about the return of Russian athletes to tournaments. The organization considered that the concept of the Russians performing under a neutral flag has proven itself well and is now being discussed by the members of the committee.
