Tarpishchev appreciated the call of Ukrainians to remove tennis players from Russia and Belarus

Tarpischev refused to respond to Ukraine’s call to remove tennis players from Russia

President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev refused to respond to the call of the Ukrainian Tennis Federation (FTU) to remove Russian and Belarusian players from international tournaments. It is reported by Sport24.

“Yes, let them demand what they want. I do not react to such statements in any way. What is the point of me descending to this nonsense? I don’t want a dispute. They are nobody to me,” said Tarpishchev. He added that he needed to mind his own business.

The FTU requirement appeared earlier on January 30. The organization drew attention to the congratulations of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to compatriot Arina Sobolenko, who won the Australian Open. According to the Ukrainian side, such actions by Lukashenka are a manifestation of self-PR on sports results. “It is necessary to immediately isolate Russian and Belarusian athletes within the borders of their states!” — said in the FTU.

Russian and Belarusian tennis players play at the tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) in a neutral status. Athletes in all tournaments are deprived of the flag and anthem. At the same time, Russians are forbidden to play in tournaments under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
