“Match TV”: in relations between the RFU and UEFA, there has been a positive trend
There has been a positive trend in relations between the Russian Football Union (RFU) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). This became known to “Match TV”.
According to the source, UEFA’s position towards Russia has changed, so the RFU is ready for dialogue. It is noted that the parties are discussing the return of women’s and youth football to tournaments under the auspices of UEFA, but have not yet come to an unequivocal decision.
The meeting with the participation of representatives of Russia and UEFA took place on 24 January. The RFU said that the parties agreed on the procedure for further cooperation on the return of Russian teams and clubs to international competitions and agreed to continue contacts. High-ranking representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Football Federation (FIFA) will be connected to the new meeting.
On February 28, 2022, FIFA and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team has lost the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
