Olympic champion Duhamel called on countries to boycott the 2024 Games if Russians are admitted
Olympic champion in figure skating, Canadian Megan Duhamel assessed the threat of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine to boycott the 2024 Games in Paris if the Russians are admitted. The athlete spoke out Twitter.
“I think more countries and sports federations should follow suit,” Duhamel urged.
On January 28, the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, said that the boycott by Ukraine does not correspond to the mission of the Olympic Charter. “Individual athletes should not be discriminated against by exclusion, even if countries are in a state of conflict,” Bach explained.
On January 26, the head of the NOC of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, said that the national team could miss the 2024 Olympics if the teams of Russia and Belarus participate in it. Earlier, the IOC noted that they are considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes.
The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
