The OCA will develop a special quota system for the selection of Russians for the 2024 Olympics
Acting President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Randhir Singh spoke about the development of a special quota system for Russian athletes, thanks to which they will be able to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His words are quoted by the Indian Express.
Singh said that the Russians will be able to compete in disciplines where quantitative indicators will be set. He noted that with a point system, Asian athletes will not lose their place in the selection. According to the functionary, in this way the Russians will have the opportunity to speak at the Games in Paris. “Sport is for love, friendship and brotherhood. Athletes are one family,” he summed up.
On January 26, the OCA invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the Asian Games. The competition will be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
A day earlier, the International Olympic Committee announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It is clarified that only athletes who did not support the CBO in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
