This Saturday, the Porto hit the Sporting by 2-0 at Estádio Municipal de Leiria and won the Portuguese League Cup in an unprecedented way. Canadian Stephen Eustáquio and defender Iván Marcano scored the goals of the duel. In the final straight, Paulinho was expelled by the defeated side.
In addition to winning the first League Cup in its history, Porto also celebrates having won 83 official titles, the same number as rival Benfica.
Porto reached the knockout stage of the tournament after being first in Group A with seven points from three games. The way to the final went through Gil Vicente, in the quarterfinals, and Académico de Viseu, in the semifinal.
Sporting, on the other hand, left the group stage leader with nine points conquered and 100% success in three matches. In the quarterfinals and semi, the opponents were Braga and Arouca, respectively.
Now, both clubs focus their efforts on the Portuguese Championship. After 17 games, Porto has 39 points and is third in the Primeira Liga. Sporting, on the other hand, is right behind, in fourth, with 32 points.
