New York Rangers players refuse to wear pro-LGBT uniforms ahead of NHL game

Hockey club “New York Rangers” refused to participate in the action in support of LGBT people before the National Hockey League (NHL) game against the “Vegas Golden Knights”. It is reported by Fox News.

“Our club respects the LGBT community and we are proud to bring attention to important local community organizations. In line with the core values of our organization, we support the right of everyone to respectfully express their beliefs,” the team said in a statement. At the same time, the names of the players who refused to wear uniforms in support of LGBT people were not named.

The match took place on January 28 in New York and ended with the score 4:1 in favor of the hosts. Before the meeting, it was announced that the Rangers players would come to the reel in special jerseys and use rainbow tape on the sticks, but none of this was performed. Three Russians play in the club: forwards Artemy Panarin and Vitaly Kravtsov, as well as goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin.

On January 18, Philadelphia Flyers player Ivan Provorov refused to go out for a workout before the match with the Anaheim Ducks (5: 2) because of the use of LGBT uniforms on it. After that, Canadian journalist Gord Miller called for the hockey player to be punished. However, the leadership of the league emphasized that the players have the right to decide in which promotions to participate.
