Tarpishchev called the victory of the Belarusian Sobolenko at the Australian Open the legacy of the Soviet school
President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev reacted to the victory of the Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko in the final of the Australian Open. It is reported by “Sport-Express”.
“In general, the school of Belarusian tennis is akin to ours. This is one system. In many ways, Sobolenko’s victory is a legacy of the Soviet school,” Tarpishchev said. He added that the final match of the tournament was very worthy.
Tarpischev also recalled that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was the first to call Sobolenko a contender for victory in the Grand Slam tournament. “Then I agreed with him. And now it happened, ”said Tarpishchev.
On Saturday, January 28, Sobolenko in the final of the Australian Open defeated the representative of Kazakhstan Elena Rybakina in three sets with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 6:4. Previously, the 24-year-old Belarusian athlete won Grand Slam tournaments only in doubles. Together with Belgian Elise Mertens, she won the 2019 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open.
