Legia’s match in the Polish Cup is at risk. The police say no

The ongoing edition of the Polish Cup is full of surprises. As many as three clubs from the second league and even a third-league will play in the quarter-finals. Lechia Zielona Góra will host Legi Warszawa at the end of February. For the club from the capital of the Lubuskie Voivodeship, this is to be the most important event in history. For now, however, it is not known whether it will take place there at all.

Zielona Góra is fighting for a football holiday. The decision of the police regarding the match between Lechia and Legia is coming soon

As we read in “PrzeglÄ…d Sportowy”, the obstacle may be a facility completely unsuitable for playing matches that arouse greater interest of fans. Usually Lechia plays for 200 or 300 people. The previous matches between PP and Ekstraklasa players, Jagiellonia and Radomiak, which Lechia played at the athletics facility, were also not a problem. It’s just that these were not mass events, so there were less than a thousand people in the stands.

Organizing a mass event is the main challenge before the quarter-final with Legia. It would be wrong if the most important match in the history of the club was watched by less than a thousand people. There are several times more interested, especially since you have to add Legia fans who follow the club in the domestic cup in large numbers.

The club will submit an application for permission for a mass event by the end of the week, but there is a good chance that the police will not agree to it. – From previous meetings, I know that her opinion is negative. They are afraid that more Legia supporters will come than we are able to accept. It also suggests that, due to the proximity of Poznań, Lech fans may appear and there may be brawls – said Konrad Komorniczak – one of Lechia’s shareholders.

The police recommend that the match be played with 999 spectators and without visiting fans. An option is also to move the match to Warsaw or to a facility that meets the requirements. – For us and for Lubuskie fans, something like this would be a great failure – he concluded.

What happens if the police give a negative opinion? The Mayor of Zielona Góra has the right to decide to organize a mass event. The police may appeal against this decision to the Lubuskie Voivode. Everything will become clear in the coming weeks.
