Belarusian tennis player Arina Sabolenko wins Australian Open 2023

Belarusian tennis player Arina Sabolenko became the champion of the Australian Open (Australian Open) in 2023. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.

Sobolenko won the final match against Kazakhstani athlete Elena Rybakina, who played for Russia until 2018. The meeting ended in three sets with the score 4:6, 6:3, 6:4. Tennis players spent 2 hours and 28 minutes on the court.

Earlier, 24-year-old Sobolenko has already won Grand Slam tournaments in doubles. Together with Belgian Elise Mertens, she won the 2019 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open.

On January 17, Sobolenko appreciated the ban on the flags of Russia and Belarus in the stands of the Australian Open-2023. “If everyone is better for it, then fine. I have no control over this situation. What else can I say? They decided so – well, without flags – okay, ”she said, emphasizing that tennis and sports have nothing to do with politics.

The Russians play at tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Women’s Tennis Association, including the Australian Open, in a neutral status. Athletes are deprived of the flag and anthem.
