Iñaki Peciña, Kauldi Odriozola and Imanol Garciandia they will play for the bronze medalagainst France or Sweden, after the victory achieved by Denmark against Spain, with a final result of 23-26, this Friday, in the first semifinal of the World Handball Championship that is taking place in Poland and Sweden. Peciña and Odriozola have participated in the match, in which the Danish team, current world champion, has obtained a pass to the final.

With Imanol Garciandia out of the squad, neither Peciña nor Odriozola have been part of the initial team arranged by Jordi Ribera, the Spain coach, whose team has not been comfortable in the first half. Denmark has commanded on the scoreboard practically from the beginning, with advantages of up to four goals, at 5-9, 6-10 and 7-11. Spain has opted, at that point, to change its defense, putting a man more in advance, and has balanced the result, getting closer to just one goal at 10-11; but the final stretch of the first half showed a more successful Danish team, with four more goals scored by Pérez de Vargas, to leave things at half-time with a 10-15 scoreline that was the biggest difference recorded up to that moment.

After the break, the Spanish team, maintaining its commitment to a defense in which a player was more advanced, has been able to intensify its pressure and increase its success, and Denmark has found itself more uncomfortable. Thus, those of Ribera have come to place just one goal difference (19-20 and 20-21), thanks, in part, to the extraordinary saves by his goalkeeper, and the defensive spark that the Zumaiarra Kauldi Odriozola has been able to put and transmit to his teammates.

A 0-4 run has stretched the Danish lead back to five goals (20-25), but the Spanish team, with one last reaction, was placed within two goals, 23-25, at the last minute. The Spanish team has not been able, however, to complete the comeback, and will not be able to fight for the world title, but they will be able to seek the bronze medal, to finish off their good championship.
