What a torpedo for Kulm jumpers. Record flight. The Slovenian saved himself as best he could

This weekend the World Cup competitions will be held on the Kulm hill in Bad Mitterndorf, Austria. On Friday, after 10:00, the first official training before qualifying, scheduled for 12:45, began.

Amazing jump of Zigi Jelar on Kulm. He flew to 247.5 meters, breaking an unofficial record

During the first training series, the Slovene Ziga Jelar performed an extraordinary feat. He jumped on 247.5 meters, which would be a new hill record. During the landing he had to support himself hard not to lose his balance and for this reason and the fact that it was a training session, the result will not be considered official. Official hill records are counted only during top-level competitions and qualifications.

Jelar’s result is three and a half meters better than the official record set by his compatriot Peter Prevc on January 16, 2016. Jelar will also not beat his personal best result, which was a jump of 239 m at Letalnica in Planica in March 2022.

Despite a great jump, Jelar finished the first training round in fourth place with 213.4 points. The first place was taken by Stefan Kraft, who jumped on 241 meters and scored 230.5 points. The second Halvor Egner Graneruda was half a point ahead, the third Dawid Kubacki had 216.8 points.
