Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says fans had reason to boo the English anthem
Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp stood up for local fans booing the English anthem. His words are quoted by Marca.
The specialist considered that it is better for politicians to understand what is happening, since fans do not arrange such actions for no reason. “Our fans and I know some fans from other clubs see it differently, they are wonderful people. They are smart, they go through downs, they go through ups, they suffer together,” he said. At the same time, Klopp stressed that he could not assess the background of the action, as he did not live long enough in England.
On May 14, Liverpool fans booed the English anthem and Prince William before the start of the National Cup final against London’s Chelsea. The meeting ended with the victory of the Reds from the scores 6:5 in the penalty shoot-out.
Fans began to hold a similar action at Wembley Stadium in April 1989. Then, due to the erroneous actions of the police at the Hillsborough stadium, 96 Liverpool fans died in a stampede.
